Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient medical system that has been used for over 2000 years. It is a holistic medicine that visualizes body “systems” disorders rather than focusing on a specific symptom. It diagnoses, treats, and prevents diseases based on the core theory that diseases result from imbalances in the body’s vital forces and substances.
Acupuncture is the most well-known form of TCM treatment. There are other therapeutics that may be used alone or alongside acupuncture, such as herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping (used to detach muscle adhesions and accelerate healing of trauma), gua sha (used to improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage), tui na (a Chinese manual therapy), and lifestyle suggestions.
