What is a Dietitian?
Registered Dietitians (RDs) are licensed and regulated health professionals who empower their clients to enjoy food while meeting their nutrition needs.
Through obtaining a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and completing a practical internship, dietitians are trained to provide clients with individualized information aligned with their clients’ personal goals and health needs. Dietitians translate the science of nutrition into information that is easy to understand.
What is a Dietitian? Are “Nutritionists” and “Dietitians” the same?
Not necessarily. In Ontario and most of Canada, the term “Dietitian” is a regulated title, whereas “nutritionist” is not regulated and can be used by anyone. This means that dietitians must meet education and training requirements and be registered with a regulatory body. In Ontario, dietitians are licensed by the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
Are Registered Dietitian (RD) services covered by OHIP?
No, private practice Registered Dietitian services are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). However, Registered Dietitian (RD) appointments and services are covered by many extended health insurance plans.

What is it like to see a dietitian for nutrition counselling?
Aurum Dietitians see each of clients for a one hour initial appointment. They take the time to get to know her clients and understand their medical history, day-to-day routine, stresses and support systems. This helps to ensure that the nutrition information provided is specific and useful to each individual.
Aurum Dietitians also offer half hour and 1 hour follow up appointments. The scheduling of follow up appointments are tailored to each client. Most clients follow-up after their initial within 1 to 2 weeks after their initial appointment. After this, follow ups can range between weekly to every three months, depending on the support you need.
